What is an EDI 816?
The EDI 816 is a X12 transaction set for a report of Organizational Relationships which is used to communicate location information. The EDI 816 provides information such as:
- Location address
- Identification code
- Date reference
- Administrative phone number
- Relationships of locations to one another
Benefits of Implementing the EDI 816
Implementing the EDI 816 enables you to keep and send detailed records of your distribution centers, warehouses, and other locations that you may have. It elucidates the data that is present in other documents by describing the relevant codes and ascribing them to specific locations.
EDI 816 Workflow
An EDI 816 is used to build relationships between your various locations (distribution centers, warehouses, etc.). Unlike most other EDI transactions, the EDI 816 is not transmitted due to the generation of another transaction (e.g. the EDI 856 or EDI 997). It is instead a report that is run as needed when new locations are added or existing locations are changed. However, an EDI 997 is generated upon the receipt of an EDI 816.
