What is an EDI 832?
The EDI 832 is a X12 transaction set for a Price/Sales Catalog that is used to replace a paper catalog detailing product information and the supply chain involved with these products. The EDI 832 provides information such as:
- Vendor information, including contact information
- Sales terms and discounts if available
- Item data, including descriptions, unit of measure, and EAN/GTIN/UPC
- Item attributes, such as height, weight, etc.
- Item availability, quantities, and pricing
Benefits of Implementing the EDI 832
Implementing the EDI 832 is essential to your supply chain by creating a real-time catalog of your products for customers to consider. This replaces the paper catalog, which drives up your business costs as new products are added and existing product data changes. The paper catalog also requires manual entry, thus increasing the chance of human error.
EDI 832 Workflow
An EDI 832 is used to communicate product information, availability, pricing, and terms of sale. Unlike most other EDI transactions, the EDI 832 is not transmitted due to the generation of another transaction (e.g. the EDI 856 or EDI 997). It is instead a report that is run as needed when new products are added or existing products are changed. However, an EDI 997 is generated upon the receipt of an EDI 832.
